Much of our amber comes from what is now the Baltic Sea. Many millennia ago, prehistoric coniferous pine trees formed a large forest there. The sap or resin from the trees fossilized over the course of 40-60 million years, producing these beautiful organic gemstones. Occasionally bits of flora, fauna, and/or insects became trapped within the resin, providing us with a connection to our distant past. Sun worshipers of the Stone Age, early Greeks, and Romans all believed that wearing amber was beneficial to one’s health.
