New Mesmerizing Jewelry at Eye’s!

We just got lots of new jewelry in from Tibet, India, Bali and the Navajo and Zuni Reservations in America. Here’s a glimpse of the Balinese treasures – semi-precious stones, set in sterling silver. FYI, if you’re looking for a birthday present, the birthstone for January is garnet and February’s stone is the purple amethyst.

These earrings, pendants, rings and necklaces are handmade by Duwayne Turpen. He was born and raised on the Navajo and Zuni reservations and learnt the art of stonecarving from his grandfather. Many of the pendants, especially the arrowhead ones, are great for men too.

Native and tribal esthetic has been a huge trend for a while now. There are some mixed feelings about this among Native Americans because sometimes companies that have nothing to do with a Native culture still name their products after the tribe. For example, there is a trendy clothing chain that sells blankets, sweaters, underwear and even flasks that are labeled ‘Navajo’ although the products have not been designed or made by a Native and may be outright offensive (underwear, flask??). If you want to adorn yourself with beautiful Native American jewelry or clothing, you can make sure you’re actually supporting the right source by looking for a certification. All items that were actually made by a Native American come with a certification or a tag that says ‘Native-made’.
